14 official competitions at stake

More that 300 players from 14 counties are set to compete in the four speciality groups scheduled to be played at the World Championships Barcelona 2018 in order to win the 14 official competitions en at stake.

Basque Pelota World Championships

The first Basque Pelota World Championships were staged in San Sebastián in 1952 by the International Federation of Basque Pelota (FIPV). The first three editions of the tournament were held every three years and since 1962 the World Championships have been held every four years.

Teams classify to participate in the World Championships through the World Cup competitions of the FIPV’s various official specialities held prior to them.

Basque Pelota World Championships Barcelona 2018 organization

In 2014, the promoter body of these World Championships, the International Federation of Basque Pelota (FIPV), named Barcelona as the host city for the 18th Basque Pelota World Championships in 2018. The Spanish Federation of Basque Pelota (FEP) then designated the Catalan Federation of Basque Pelota (FCP) to take charge of the event’s organisation.
